There are few jewelry items that are more beautiful than elegant crystal necklaces. A crystal heart pendant can quickly become the star of your fashion jewelry collection, just by wearing it a few times. But when wearing crystal jewelry, there are a few things to keep in mind. If you don’t take good care of it, the natural luster and elegant beauty of your necklace will dim and you’ll stop wearing it and go looking for a new one instead of simply maintaining what you already have.
The worst thing that can happen to a crystal pendant is for it to be ignored, scratched, and left for dead. Many things you use every day tarnish crystal. Most lotions and cosmetics are not good for crystal, so you need to wait for them to be completely dry before putting the necklace on. If you have a necklace that is already tarnished, using a mild cleaning agent that will remove the residue without scraping the crystal. One method to try is a glass of white vinegar. Test it first on a tiny part of the crystal to make sure it won’t hurt it, but with most, you should be able to dip the crystal in and let the vinegar do its job without you having to wipe it and risk streaks or worse, scratches.
There are cleaners designed specifically to clean crystals, and if the vinegar doesn’t work, try getting the cleaner designed specifically for that type of crystal. Never store your crystal necklaces in piles. Use a necklace stand or a box that has hangers for the necklaces that keep them from bumping into each other. Most crystals don’t handle heat and humidity well, so try to keep them dry as well. Your necklace will reward you with a lifetime of beauty and elegance if properly cared for, so be nice to them!
